No July or August Meeting

On another note, to ensure we all get to enjoy our summer the club will not be meeting during July or August. Our next meeting will be the September BBQ (location TBD).

Workshops & Concerts

Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy 2025 registration is in full swing. Pipers will need to register by via t the Na Piobairi Uilleann website (pipers.ie). I suspect the majority of accommodations are already booked, however there is a Facebook page with folks still offer up their spare rooms: Willie Clancy Week Facebook Group.

They have also released the program for the event in an Instagram post you can see here.

House Concerts

I’ve also received word that Sean Gavin, Johnny Connolly, and Cary Novotny will be visiting Seattle for a house concert on June 25th. Please reach out to John Manning for more details on that.

My Music with Rhiannon Giddens

I came across a clip from Rhiannon Giddens' PBS series showcasing musicians. In its third season Rhiannon visits Ireland to interview and learn from local legends. The clip I saw was from her episode with piper Emer Mayock, whom some of you may know from her work with the Goodman Manuscripts and the subsequent albums.

At the moment the episode is free, but soon a donation to PBS will be required to view it. You can see it here Emer Mayock - My Music with Rhiannon Giddens.

Celtic Music Podcast - Pride Month

Last week's edition of the popular Celtic Music Podcast dedicated their episode to Pride month, showcasing LGBTQIA+ musicians, including a great interview with Scottish smallpiper Malin Lewis who plays a custom wooden Lindsey chanter. If you've never heard of this type of chanter before, it's a smallpipe chanter designed by Donald Lindsey using 3d printing that increases the standard one octave of the scottish smallpipes, to a full three octaves.

Also on the podcast is a local Seattle icon, Ockam's Razor! Many of you locals might know their lead singer from our sessions serenading us with their angelic voice and top tier box playing. You can catch the full episode here: Celtic Music Podcast Ep. 712

That’s it for now. Remember, we will not be meeting in July or August. We will reconvene in September with a BBQ. Cheers!
